Have you seen it?

Today's Wall Street Journal says THE HUNGER GAMES movie grossed an estimated $155 million opening weekend in North America. Holy post-apocalypse, Batman. That's a lot of dough. Isn't it awesome that a YA novel fueled the excitement behind those ticket sales, that it all started with a book?

I went to the movie Saturday afternoon, and I loved it. I thought the casting was phenomenal, and
Jennifer Lawrence channeled the soul of Katniss. The movie generally stayed true to the book and, without giving any spoilers, I liked the way they worked in the important pieces of backstory. Of course the Reaping scene made me cry.

Have you seen it? If so, did the movie measure up to the book for you? If you haven't seen it, do you plan to? What film adaptations do you think were done well?

Wow 155 Million? That is impressive. Certainly enough buzz thee past few weeks about the opening.

That is really impressive! And awesome for YA!!

I think I'm going to wait for this to come out on DVD, though. Unless my hubby bugs me enough to get me to a theater. I enjoyed the books, so I can't imagine liking the movie more ... although everyone I've talked to says it's good. Still, I think I'll wait for the DVD. :) I'm so anti-hype. ha ha! Rebel at heart.

I haven't seen it yet, but definitely plan to soon, with my daughter. And so far, I've ony heard good things about it.... :)

Slamdunk, that's what the WSJ and the Seattle Times said yesterday, though today the Seattle Times says $152.5 million.

Amy the Rebel, my kids tell me I'm a sucker for marketing. I love going to the big movies opening weekend! Something about the energy. There are times when I don't want to see a movie after I've enjoyed the book because I think I'll be disappointed or I prefer to remember it the way I'd initially imagined it. I didn't like THE HUNGER GAMES movie more than the book, but I thought it was a great adaptation! I loved both! :)

Hi, Hema! Have a blast seeing it with your daughter!

I haven't read the books yet so perhaps I'll hold off from watching the movie until I do.

Hi, Carmen! Good idea. I always want to read the book before the movie, too!

My niece recommended the book, and I just finished it.
I LOVED IT. I'll start reading the second book tomorrow.

I haven't seen it yet, but would love too. I'd like to read the book first, though. I started it awhile back, but then got distracted with other tasks. I only read the first few pages. I want to sit down and read the whole thing.

Life 101, how cool that your niece recommended it. Enjoy!

Old Kitty, I thought the Harry Potter films were done well so you have me curious! I reread each of the first four novels after the movies came out so I could compare and contrast with everything fresh in my brain. I only read the last three one time each because there are so many excellent books out there. Dang, though, I was tempted to read them again. They're so great! Regarding LOTR, I confess I never read the books! Aah! I read THE HOBBIT, though, and I bought the books. Give me time. Hee! :)

Medeia, I love your book reviews. I look forward to reading your thoughts!
